XTC – Coat of Many Cupboards

I purchased “Coat of Many Cupboards” by XTC on itunes for £16.99 earlier.

Im not what you would call a huge fan of XTC. Then again I do actually own almost every album they have released.

They had something that just keeps me coming back every now and then. I think it goes back to the days when I would listen to my older brothers C-90 taped compilation of the Top 40 Charts from Radio 1. “Making Plans For Nigel” and “Senses Working Overtime” and a black Samsung tape with blue ink handwritten on the inlay card seem to be etched into my memory.

At the time it seemed very English and quite Summer-ish despite the songs darker leanings.

Of-course it was much later that I actually searched out their albums to see if there was anything else that took my fancy … and there was – it was like opening a treasure chest.

Fantastic stuff.

This album is pretty much all unreleased stuff like home demos, live tracks and acoustic versions.

Straight onto my iPod.

I need to curb my fucking impulse spending though … I don’t have an income stream at the moment after all.

Perhaps i’m searching out those feelings of wonder and childish optimism that I had when I first came across those sounds.

Whatever … I like it either way.
